My mother recently purchased a cottage lake house which she dubbed “The Dollhouse.” She’ll be sharing her DIY projects and home updates with us!

I closed on The Dollhouse on Feb. 24, 2012. She was a foreclosure and came with no guarantees, except I made the offer contingent on any plumbing issues being addressed. The house has a private well and private septic system – both of which passed inspection! The house had been vacant for about one year and was winterized over the winter of 2010-11. Turning the water back on met with some leaks and nearly $1,000 in repairs that the bank agreed to fix. Since it’s still winter out there, the projects I’ll be tackling first are going to be inside. Granted, she doesn’t need any major work, but a few things here and there in typical DIY style will make her happy to be lived-in once again.
